2. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY CALF ROPER TO READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL RULES PERTAINING TO HIS EVENT, THE DUTIES OF EACH RODEO OFFICIAL, AND RULES OF THE CAJUN RODEO ASSOCIATION IN GENERAL.
3. Stock must weigh 180-225 pounds and be as evenly matched as possible. Objectionable animals will be removed from the draw.
4. Calves used for roping contest may be used in jackpot calf ropings and matched calf ropings, but they cannot be used as practice calves.
5. Calves must be branded or tagged plainly so that anyone can read the numbers. Crayons and paint are not permissible. Stockyard tags are permissible. Ear tags are preferred. Producers are responsible for tags.
6. If calves are fresh, all calves must be trailed at least three (3) times and tied before draw.
7. Reruns must be drawn after performance.
8. For rerun stock to be returned to roping chute, at least three (3) calves must be returned at a time. No animal can be returned alone.
9. If Director approaches Stock Contractor to cut cattle in timed events, he must do so or be automatically fined FIFTY AND NO/100 ($ 50.00) DOLLARS. Producer will have two (2) weeks to change cattle after he has been asked to do so by Calf Roping Director.
CALF ROPING - BARRIERS AND SCORING
1. Hatersfield barrier must be used at all approved rodeos.
2. Minimum length of barrier will be the length of the box minus four (4’) feet and the maximum length of the barrier will be the length of the box minus two (2‘) feet.
3. Judges are responsible to see that barriers are in place before the first (1st) performance.
4. All barriers and boxes for roping will be tape-measured and recorded with the rodeo secretary by the judge.
5. If automatic barrier fails to work, it will be left up to the barrier judge whether or not a ten (10) second penalty is place on the roper.
6. All stock that is taken over because of faulty barrier equipment will be taken after the performance. All parts of the barrier will be properly secured.
CALF ROPING – CATCH AS CATCH CAN
1. One loop will be permitted. Roping calf without releasing the loop from hand is not permitted.
2. To qualify as a legal tie, there shall be at least one wrap around any three legs and secured with a half hitch
3. Tie must hold for 6 seconds after the roper re-mounts and slacks the rope. Rope must be slacked enough to lay flat on the ground for at least two (2) feet in front of calf.
4. If rope is not on calf when roper calls for time, six (6) seconds will start when roper clears the calf. 5. Contestant must adjust rope and reins in a manner that will prevent no assistance of any kind. If horse drags calf, field judge may stop horse and any penalty for such offense can only be assessed by flag judge.
6. Any intentionally drag will result in a “no-time” AND a fine of a minimum of $ 100.00 to a maximum of $ 500.00. Any unintentional excessive dragging (approximately 10 ft.) after roper has completed tying calf will result in a $ 25.00 fine upon 1st offense. Subsequent offenses will result in an increase of $ 25.00 per offense.
7. Rope must be tied hard and fast. Contestant must dismount, go down rope, and throw calf by hand and cross tie any three (3) legs. If calf is down when roper reaches it, the calf must be let up to his feet and be thrown by hand. Rope must remain on the calf until roper touches the calf. Cajun Rodeo Association Rule Book Page 17 Rev: 02/12/2022 Once printed, this document is uncontrolled 8. Roper must not touch the calf, string, or rope after giving finish signal. If tie comes loose or calf get to its feet before the tie has been ruled a fair one, the roper will be marked with no time.
9. When roper nods for calf, it is his. When roper nods or calls for his calf, he has no recourse to run him over with only three (3) exceptions: 1. time is not recorded 2. if score line stays on calf 3. if roper runs the wrong calf
10. If barrier neck rope stays on calf, jerks calf and roper ties him, he will not be entitled to a rerun. 11. Judge will appoint someone to stand on score line.
12. Contestant will have privilege of furnishing his own stock pusher if he so desires.
13. All calves will be trailed through calf chute and penned in catch pen prior to first (1st) performance.
14. When drawing calves, all stock is drawn from the entire herd for each performance.
15. No handling or tampering of calves will be permitted.
16. If the Calf Roping Director is not able to attend a rodeo, he will be allowed to appoint an assistant to fill in his place.
17. As long as roper does not signal for time after tying a calf, he will not be flagged out for going back to his string. If roper ties calf but does not call for time, he will not be flagged until roper stands up and is obviously finished. Roper cannot go back to calf at this time.
18. Once rope is thrown, no rerun will be given unless the calf that was run was not the calf drawn. In this case, the correct calf will be run.
19. In any situation where there is no rule to govern, the decision of the judge is final.
20. There will be a thirty (30) second time limit.
